Jewelry Hazard

Today I experienced an unanticipated hazard of wearing this pendant:

to an outdoor mass in the bright sun of mid-day. I wore it mounted on a necklace cable and it leaves a distinctive sunburn shape:

I am hoping it will fade quickly. Either that, or this will be the only necklace I wear for awhile! It’s a good thing I have a lot of pink friendly shirts in my wardrobe.

The Bead Bazaar went well yesterday. It is always fun to hang out with my guild friends. Bead shopping just adds a nice spice to that. I sold a few pendants. My pieces were pricey compared to the rest of the booth, so I didn’t expect to sell out by any means. This was the first year the Bead Bazaar was a two day event and I’m really anxious to find out how sales went today. It was an absolutely spectacular fall day around here, so it wouldn’t surprise me if sales were slow.

Now that the Bead Bazaar is behind me, I need to find a new creative focus. I’m thinking of doing some simple geometric caning. It’ll be a nice change of focus for awhile. This is one of my main inspirations. Cane work is really not something I do often and I think it will be good to shift. On the other hand, caning never seems to hold my focus for long so I can’t promise anything will come of it. I’ll keep you posted.

Y’know… there are so many other hazards of jewelry making… that one just never would have occurred to me.

It’s fortunate indeed that particular pendant works well with your wardrobe, and it is gorgeous. But… might I suggest the judicious application of sunblock in the future?

Oh, ouch! Same thing happened to me last summer, although not quite as dramatically. It was “the summer of the pendant necklace” for me (much as this year was “the summer of the elastic-waist skirt”) and I managed to develop a tan with a light spot right in the center of my upper chest because every time I was out in the sun I was wearing one of my pendants.
