Clearing out…
Moving really forces you to clear stuff out. It’s hard work, but it feels great after you’re done. We cleared a lot out before we moved last summer, but we had been in our house more than 10 years and we really didn’t want to move. Before we put this house on the market we cleared out pretty much all the rest of the stuff that we should have thrown out the first time. It really feels great. We’re not perfect. Bob’s still got lots of sentimental things, and I’ve got way too many books and craft supplies. But we’re much lighter in stuff than we were before.
Sometimes it’s hard to get rid of things and then circumstances make it easy. I had a whole hoard of Fimo left over from my early days of polymer and a certain face caning frenzy. I had an embarrassing number of large bricks, and I was partly hanging on to them because I am too lazy to sell my extra stuff. Then a friend put out a call that she needed some Fimo and suddenly I had a reason to get rid of it! (Thank heaven for the post office flat rate priority boxes) Giving it away feels right, and it’s a big box I don’t have to move.
Now I just wish I could summon up the energy I need to do all those other pre-moving jobs. It’s still a ways off, but I know how quickly that time can just slide away.
