Zzzzz….

by Libby on May 4, 2006

I am so tired, I can barely see straight. Woofie needs to get up multiple times at night and when I am not stumbling downstairs to let her out, I am waking up to check and see if she needs to go out. It’s not a recipe for a restful night’s sleep. My husband seems to be able to get up with the dog and fall back to sleep, but I don’t have the knack.

This level of exhaustion is very reminiscent of the days when the girls were babies. I really don’t know how I did it then. Well, I was younger and I slept during the day whenever I could. We were also very lucky. Both our daughters learned to sleep through the night pretty early and no one in this house is much of an early riser.

Thanks go out to my friends who have moved so many times in their lives, and write to cheer me on. I have a new and keen appreciation for people who have to move around a lot. I’ve said it before, but the biggest lesson in this year has been learning to appreciate what other people are going through. I think of it as a giant “Walk A Mile In My Shoes” lesson.

Some random resolutions and observations: (I told you I was tired!)
* I will try to appreciate and contact my friends more often
* I will make a concerted effort to go greet new neighbors whenever a new family moves in
* We need to entertain more often
* The pull of “home” is much stronger than I thought
* It’s ridiculous to try to reason with a dog at 3 am
* Bribery works when all else fails (this applies to dogs and children)
* After this, I don’t want to move for a very very long time
* Large beads (5/0 triangles for example) and simple stitches are good when I’m really tired
