Quite a day

by Libby on May 7, 2006

Saturday goes down as one of the worst days we’ve experienced in New Jersey. It started with the realization that my cell phone was missing and indications are that it was probably stolen. Ha! It serves the nasty thief right stealing that phone, not only is it one of the most basic phones, no fancy ring tones, no camera, no frills, but the battery was dying and barely held a charge. Well, it’s defunct now. I have replaced it with virtually the same model. I don’t need fancy bells and whistles in a cell phone, particularly when I have to pay full retail.

The day ended at the Morristown Memorial Hospital’s Children’s Emergency room. Our younger daughter is severely allergic to peanuts. She was at a friend’s birthday party and the other kids (32 kids total if you can believe it) played a game with peanuts. To make a long story short she had a huge hive reaction. We gave her the Epi-pen and rushed her to the emergency room. The hives eventually progreesed to the point that she had hives from her scalp to her legs. She’s ok now, but she was more than a little freaked out and it was a long long night.

So we’re in the dual state mode. Bob’s in Connecticut during the week and we’re here. It makes for some pretty long weeks. We did this last year and it’s not fun. It’s complicated this time by the fact that I don’t have a support network of friends here so the kids and I are bound to get on each other’s nerves. There really is such a thing as too much togetherness. LOL

Oh! Wow! I know this is way past late, but I’m sorry you had such a bad day! How is she now? How are you now? How much longer until you are all together again? I feel for you-I’ve been exactly where you are right now, except Eric was in Russia instead of CT. Anything I can do to help from 8000 miles away? Evalie

She’s better, but she was still itching days later. I think today was her first Benadryl-free day. I’m lucky Bob’s only 3 hours away so he comes home on weekends. 6 more weeks of craziness.

Russia, you guys have had some exciting living adventures! How are things in the big sandbox?

I’m glad she’s better. I know the itching is probably driving here crazy. The big sandbox is very hot, and very, very sandy! We have had a lot more shamals or sandstorms this year than any year since we have been here. And this year, they seem to hang around for days, instead of blowing in and blowing out in a day. Everyting is covered in a layer of fine sand-even the flowers-it’s kind of sad. My gardener takes the broom to them, but all that does is redistribute the sand. Oh well! The 5′ 11″ 15 year old is gearing up for graduation. Mom is gearing up for an empty nest. What can I say? Evalie
