The Start of My Studio

by Libby on August 15, 2006

Studio construction began in our basement on Saturday. I can hardly contain myself. The one giant thing lacking in this house was a good well-lit workspace for me. Thanks and endless appreciation goes to my husband for making the construction of a creative space for me a big priority. Today they finished framing the walls and started the electrical rough-in. Coming down the stairs to the basement I was greeted by this:
The beginnings of walls!!! You can’t see it, but they also beefed up the staircase, so now it has risers. The staircase and the area at the bottom of the stais up to the main work area will be carpeted. My messy area will probably be covered with vinyl composition tile for a nice tough, washable and art-friendly surface.

All my supplies are boxed up in moving boxes piled in the 2 other parts of the basement. It looks like this:

Here’s the main work area, looking from where I am going to set up my table toward the other side:

This view looks toward where I plan to set up my work table, clay storage etc. I’ll have a dedicated circuit for my convection oven and full spectrum lighting throughout.

The walls will be bright white with bright blue for the trim as I had it in the NJ studio. Doors will be painted white with the raised panels in bright fun colors I love.

The space should be big enough to set up some other tables for friends. Clay Day at Libby’s!!! Soon I hope. LOL
