Life got a bit in the way here, and I haven’t updated in a while. Sorry about that. I write blog entries in my head a lot, but they don’t seem to make it to the internet. Frankly I’m not sure if anyone reads this anymore since my free counter seems to report a static 70 visitors each month. Plus, our relatively new desktop computer’s hard drive has crashed, taking with it all my precious photo files. I’m still stewing about it, and haven’t called Dell yet to see what our options are. ugh…
Anyway, fall is a busy season around here with school starting up, and all the activities ramping up to full gear. It’s also birthday season for the rest of my family from the end of August to the end of September. We have one more party to get through this weekend and then we’re done. phew! Enough whining. LOL
The studio construction is finished. We got the CO about a week ago, and now I have all the annoying finishing tasks left: adding wall and closet shelving, painting the 7 doors, fixing up some trim painting and painting over the various small repaired wall patches. They’re really hard to see since the paint is white and the drywall compound is white too. It’s a matter of peering at the walls at an angle to see the spots which need attention. I just know that I need to attend to these jobs now or I will never ever do them.
Painting doors is one of my least favorite painting tasks, so in order to make the process more exciting, we’ve assembled the bookcases. (I LOVE Ikea!) And the other night I unpacked Hildy my mannequin. I’ve moved enough in to give myself a sense of the working space. This is a view of my main work area. That triple section bookcase thing is a new bead storage unit. I plan to add the drawers
today.
The other side of the room has my bookcases (and a naked Hildy):
I’m not sure about the placement of the table to the left of the bookcases. I want to set up an area for buffing and small soldering etc. Unfortunately the door to the storage area is right there so I’d have to move the table occasionally. I have quite a bit of space to play around with, so I’ll probably tweak it a lot before I’m done.
Meanwhile most of my supplies are still buried in boxes. I’m working on it though. And I am whittling down the giant box pile in the garage. There’s hope we might be able to park our cars in the garage before it snows. Maybe. I keep unpacking boxes and boxes, and the pile seems to stay the same. It’s wierd, and rather discouraging. I’ve learned to hate boxes, but I am really enjoying throwing away, donating and rehoming lots of stuff we don’t need. That feels great!

I love Ikea too
I have that table for my main studio / office desk and I would love for those bookshelves to become the wall unit to the right of it…

I have loved following the progress of your new studio. I am just back in Kingdom. My part-time job turned into a full-time job while I was away. My studio is a total disaster-I can’t begin to find a starting place until after Ramadan, when I can go to stores at normal hours rather than 10:00 at night. Boys are all well. My baby is 6ft and still growing. Making the oldest pay for his own college this year was the smartest thing we could have done. This was more an update, than a comment, but I know you understand-it’s the time thing.
