5 Friday Favorites - Inspiration

by Libby on May 11, 2007

I have been pulled in many directions this week.  Lots of home stuff to take care of, and just little bits of time to create.  The work I have managed to do has been scattered, a bit of fish play, some silver work, some tidying.  I can’t seem to settle down.  We also recently had the air in our basement retested for radon and the reading came in over the threshold for remediation.  I spend (or plan to spend) a lot of time in the studio, so we’ll be putting in a system to bring the level down.  Just the downside of having a basement studio in rocky New England I guess.

So, here’s my post for the week.  Bear in mind, I am listing/picking Friday Favorites in no particular order. The following sites are full of eye candy, generally contemporary craft of the highest quality. I find paging through the images to be a visual vacation.

Guild.com - This site is very much like having the ideal gallery shop right at your fingertips.  There is so much beautiful work here of all sorts.  Granted, it’s not as exciting as seeing the work in person, but the sheer volume of amazing creations kind of balances that out.  Have fun shopping!  As far as inspiration goes, I like checking out work in different mediums.  Something I see in a large ceramic form mught spark an idea for a necklace or a bead.

Art Quilt Network - I find contemporary art quilts incredibly inspiring.  Check out the exhibitions.  I love the interplay between color, pattern and form.

Dazzle Jewelry Exhibitions - It’s very interesting to look at contemporary European jewelry.  There’s a great collection of images here to intrigue and inspire you.

PMC Guild  200 exhibit : Revolution/Evolution - There are images from other past precious metal clay exhibits on the guild site, but it’s fun to start with the most current work.  PMC has really come a long way.

Beadwork Magazine’s The Beaded Figure - Sculptural work with seed beads just blows me away.  Technically it’s amazing and each figure is so inventive.

Have a good weekend.  I am hoping for a bit more focus next week.
