Sharing and Showing

by Libby on May 30, 2007

I had a lovely lunch with Judy Dunn today. When I was working on The Artist’s Way, one of the suggestions was to connect with people who are supporters. I immediately thought of Judy. We’ve corresponded online, met at a couple of area guild events, but never really sat down to chat. I emailed Judy to see if she was interested in getting together for lunch some day and the answer was a definite yes. Her busy show schedule had us postponing it for awhile, but we finally managed to get together today.

It was so much fun to talk about polymer clay, design, creativity and much more. It can be hard to explain myself in my day to day life. Talking to someone who works in the same medium and shares the creative obsession is a joy. But the real treat was seeing some of Judy’s latest work up close and in person and showing off some of mine. Judy’s Vessels really are amazingly beautiful and full of wonderful little details. Her jewelry is fantastic. I especially love the new organic Pod pieces. I had to snap up this very cool pin. And (lucky me!) Judy brought me a Peace Crane in my favorite shades of lime green and purple.

I’ve been spending a fair amount of time in the studio lately. A lot of what I have been doing has end up in the trash, but I have done a few new pieces I am happy with. Some earrings:

I just finished telling my husband and daughter what a nice lunch I had today with you! I only wish we had about five or six more hours. Thanks so much for everything. I can’t wait to get together again!

I love the first new pendant! Great colors, and I’m such a big fan of pc and silver together. I’d love to learn to make bezels like that. Nice job :-)

Judy, we will definitely have to get together again! It was so much fun.

Lisa, thanks! The bezel for the Triangle pendant is just fine silver bezel wire soldered together in a tiny seam. It’s open at the back, more of a frame than a traditional bezel. Singaraja carries some premade “bead frames” that work well if you don’t want to make your own. http://www.singarajaimports.com/category.aspx?categoryid=34&startpage=0

The web site only shows a few of the shapes they carry at shows. If they’re at a bead show near you, check them out.

I am enjoying your blog. I just discovered it through Polymer Clay Daily.
I know what you mean about experimentation in the studio ending up with lots of stuff in the trash. I have encountered the same recently as I have been experimenting with shrink plastic.
I will be back to visit. Have a great day.

Libby! Great work! I’ve been seeing so much “polymerde” lately it was just refreshing to see your blog and your new work. The bezels look fantastic!
