Today started off at a relatively leisurely pace. There wasn’t any evening activity so the workshops started at 9:30 am. Tomorrow’s workshop starts at 8:00 am and ends at 3:00 because there’s another round of evening workshops plus the “Meet The Teachers ” reception. ugh… I may have to take a nap at 3:00. I enjoyed today’s later start even though I woke up bright and early full of anticipation. I had plenty of time to hike over to the Hyatt and pick up my name badge, show catalog and bag, followed by breakfast back here at the Hilton. I’m going to be thinking longingly about that nice slow pace tomorrow when I have to get up early (and quietly since Diane’s class doesn’t start till noon) and rush off to class.
Anyway… Today’s class was “Creating Transparent Layers In Jewelry” with Susan Lenart Kazmer. It was fantastic. Susan’s work is so rich in depth and meaning and incredibly inventive. She’s a very high energy teacher and she kept the class “up” all day. The techniques demonstrated went way beyond making resin “papers” into cold connections and metals. One of the greatest parts of a workshop like this is the chance to see the teacher’s work up close and hear her talk about what inspired each piece. Susan was so funny and I appreciate her work on a whole new level now. My head is brimming with new ideas! I am ordering resin now so that hopefully it will be there when I get home.
I had wanted to take a class with Susan because I admired her work, and the idea of resin intrigued me, but I wasn’t expecting to love it. Let me tell you. I am a new resin addict. I can’t wait to get my hands on some and start experimenting. I have a new use for my old Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary. It’s going to be resined and reborn!
So, here in all it’s glory (just kidding) is my collection of resined paper resting unceremoniously in our hotel room’s bathtub while it dries:
And here are the two fun rings I made in class:
Today was so much fun! Tomorrow I switch gears to bead embroidery with Sherry Serafini. It should be another great day.  You can feel the creative energy in the air. It’s exciting and inspiring. I wish I could transport myself Star Trek style back to my studio to play with the resin and then come back for the next class in a couple of days.

Oh, wow! Can’t wait to hear about bead embroidery:)
Love those rings. They look like they were so much fun to make. I wish I could do a Star Trek transport thing to B&B!
are those papers flexible?? i’m driving today past milwaukee and i’m trying not to think about stopping. i’m be coming through again on saturday. that might be a better time depending on how much energy i have left! i’m teaching a class up in door county wisconsin. it should be about a 6 hour drive. bleh.
Pixie Dust! Ruby Slippers! Saying “I do believe!. I do! One of those should work. But just in case they don’t, LOL, we can rely on Libby’s blog to transport us.
Gerri, Some of the resined papers remain very flexible. Paper towel (which looks really cool, btw) is extremely flexible coated with resin. Other papers, opaque papers mostly, seem to get stiff and some paper is crunchy/crinkly. Have a good class!
Can’t wait to see what you make with resin. I am addicted, too! I’ve given new life to a lot of old polymer clay that I thought was just not worth playing with. Susan taught a class here in Raleigh and it was sold out before the word got around. I would love to take one of her classes, too.
Thanks for the reports!
