Stolen Moments

Creative time in the summer feels like stolen moments here and there. Somehow I seem to forget this every year. I like the slower pace of summer and I really like being able to sleep past 5:55 a.m., but with the kids home from school, my time isn’t my own. Things should settle into a routine in a week or so when my older daughter is off at camp and M’s swimming and socializing schedule at the pool club gets more regular. Meanwhile, I am squeezing in moments of pounding silver in the evenings and in between appointments and errands.  No clay as yet.  I need a bit more time for that.

I pulled out some Precious Metal Clay the other night. I always seem to have great ideas about PMC until I open a package and all the ideas flee. That can happen to me with other materials, but it’s most pronounced with PMC. It’s odd. I like PMC, except for how much I dislike re-hydrating the leftover bits of clay. They never seem to want to cooperate. I work with PMC so sporadically there’s a lot I have to relearn each time.  I did make a few small frames and textured circles, but I still need to refine and fire them.

I feel a bit like a hummingbird flitting from thing to thing.

Boy can I relate Libby! Yesterday was the last day of school, and already the day is far less productive, and the interruptions more frequent. You are right. The rhythm will eventually find it’s way. And then when school starts, a new rhythm needs to reestablish itself all over again!
