The Quiet is Coming

by Libby on August 5, 2007

This afternoon we drop both our daughters off at camp for two weeks. This is a first for M as she’s not quite 12, and her peanut allergy had us hesitating to send her. The camp has assured us that she can carry her epi-pens around with her in her backpack, and she’s definitely able to self inject if the need arises. (which I am sure it won’t, but you’ve got to prepare for the possibility) E’s been going to this camp for years and it has been hard for her little sister to hear how wonderful it is and not be able to go. This is the last hurrah of camp for E, her official last session as a camper. She’ll be back as an employee next year. At the beginning of this summer she was there for a month as a Counselor-in-Training (CIT), which was a fun bout of unpaid work. For the next two weeks she’s off on one of their “adventure trips” trail riding and whitewater rafting in Maine.

So the girls will both be gone and the house will be quiet. I’m really looking forward to it, but in the spirit of complete honesty, I am sad too. The house is going to be really empty.  (even the dogs are heading off to their version of camp, lol) My husband and I haven’t been on a trip alone together in eight years so we are going to take advantage of this opportunity and do some traveling.  Blogging is likely to be light as this is our vacation.  Still, I’ll have the laptop and camera with me so I may check in.  I’m hoping to channel any free time and creative energy into sketching new designs.

Thanks for the comments from this week’s Friday Favorites.  I was really hoping to get some new blog addresses, but it was nice to hear from the fellow polymer clay bloggers I mentioned too.  I know Judy and Amy personally.  We see each other occasionally at New England retreats and such.  Although I have never met Melanie, Jeanne and Janice, I do feel like we know each other whether from years of online groups or the shared experience of polymer clay blogging.

I have an idea:  there should be a blogger meet-up at the Synergy conference!  That could be a lot of fun.  I’m not sure if our community has enough bloggers yet, but the knit bloggers did a great “Blogger Bingo” at Rhinebeck last year.  Something like that could be fun.

I’d love to meet up with everyone. Hopefully we (all) can arrange our schedules to be ‘off’ during the same time slot and meet up and discuss blogging as artists.

If I make it to Synergy I’d certainly be interested in a blogger meet-up. Enjoy your vacation, Libby.
