I haven’t written too frequently lately because my creative work has been at a standstill, and since that’s primarily what I write about here… well, you get the picture. I don’t really think I am fully in an artistic block, but some kind of inertia has definitely taken me over. So, I have two plans to get myself motivated. First of all, I’m going to drag myself down to my studio today and do some cleaning and rearranging. I’d like to move this wall of bookcases:
out of the main studio. There’s space along a wall at the bottom of the stairs when you first head down to the basement. The bookcases are currently along a wall that is adjacent to the basement hatchway. I am planning to put a more permanent soldering station in this area, and hopefully get someone to install a ventilation hood over the soldering area. Then I can upgrade from my teeny butane torch to something like an acetylene/atmosphere torch. That’s the current plan anyway.
I hate cleaning in all its forms, so just considering cleaning up and rearranging in the studio will probably spur me on to something creative. That’s how it generally works. And if I don’t get sidetracked by the desire to make something fun, I’ll at least have made some progress in the cleaning and rearranging department.
The second plan I have is to write up a tutorial for my Scribble Beads. I spent a couple of years (approximately 2002-2004) honing my technique for dimensional designs with liquid polymer clay.
I have considered writing a magazine article on the technique for a long time, but I have never gotten around to it. This morning I was thinking that I might as well put this out on my blog. I may make it a static page if I can figure that out. I don’t use the technique too frequently anymore, and I learned a lot of handy tips I’d be happy to share. So, look for something on my Scribble Beads some time in the not too distant future. It’s going to take some organization and motivation to get it done. In addition to writing up the technique I need to enlist the help of one of my daughters to take the process photos.
Off to start cleaning and moving books!

Yay! I lost the heart you gave me (that I wanted ear rings to match) so it will be good to learn to do my own. I still wear the green ear rings most of the summer.

Hi Libby,
I LOVE that you said you hate to clean!!!!! I do too and when I say that around my friends they sort of look at me as if I’m an aberration! None of them do any type of crafts….I can’t imagine….and they seem to look at cleaning as a form of entertainment or something. I have so many other things I would rather be doing ….. like claying!

As you already know, your scribble beads are one of my favorite beads. It will be interesting to see your tips on making them.
