Laughing at myself
You can laugh at me too. I made such great promises to get some things done in the studio, and to start on the scribble beads tutorial. I have made zero progress. I haven’t even managed to tuen the lights on in the studio, let alone move books around. I told my sister that I feel a bit like I am stuck in one of those kiddie board games. You know, the kind where you roll a “6″ proceed forward, and draw a card that says “go back 10″. LOL I appear to have turned lack of progress into an art form all its own.
This weekend is the Dan Cormier Building Better Beads workshop. I’m really looking forward to this. I took a teaser one day version of this workshop at the 2006 Ravensdale. Inspiring. Dan is such a focused and talented artist. I think it’s really helpful to spend time with artists who are really serious about all the parts of the process. It’s humbling and uplifting at the same time.
Polymer clay seems to be particularly prone to a “quick and dirty” approach. Perhaps it is due in part to the relatively low cost of the material. Whatever the reason, we’re lucky to have teachers around trying to raise the standard of craftsmanship. The polymer artists I most admire are thoughtful and focused and anal about design and craftsmanship. To me, the approach makes all the difference.
It’s the kind of work I aspire to when I actually get my butt in my studio.
