Dressing Up

by Libby on October 17, 2007

Getting dressed up is a giant pain!  We’re going to a wedding this weekend and since nothing in my closet fits anymore, I had to buy a dress.  (I just have to stop here for a moment and pat myself on the back for having lost around 45 pounds so far!)  Shopping for said dress was a horrifying endeavor, but I managed to find a simple long black slinky dress at Coldwater Creek that I don’t hate.  The only thing I could find to wear over the dress (which is sleeveless and let’s not go there) was a floaty blouse in a sort of animal-esque print.  I don’t think I have ever owned anything even remotely animal print, but the blouse is actually fun.

Buying the dress was tough enough, but this whole outfit necessitated all sorts of other purchases:  foundation garments (thank you Tim Gunn), shoes etc. and etc.  It’s a good thing I don’t have to get this tricked out every day because I’d need a nap.

Now, of course the dress needs new jewelry which I can’t just go buy, that would be criminal.  I have got to sandwich some time in the next day and a half to create something appropriate.  Plus, we’ve got the usual chaos of kids’ practices, appointments and whatnot.

Have I ever mentioned that I have a slight problem with leaving things until the last minute?

Look at it this way, you’ll have an outfit all ready to go for the Synergy banquet. I’m sure you will look stunning and you’re an inspiration for me. I’ve just managed to keep off the first 10 pounds of my journey, and am working on the second 10. Take pics and revel in your dressedupedness!;-)

I always think dressing up is half the fun! And a black dress is a blank canvas for whatever jewelry designs you can cook up. Congratulations on the weight loss! I admire people with willpower. I, sadly, don’t know the meaning of the word…

Barbara, that’s a good idea about Synergy. The main reason I bought this particular dress was its future usefulness. I will try to get a photo since I get dressed up so rarely. lol Good luck with the continued weight loss. It’s a continual battle.

Thanks Lisa. The blank canvas aspect of a simple black dress is a bit intimidating given the amount of time I have left. I’ve got a bunch of ideas. I’m just crossing my fingers I’ll find the time to make something.

Way to go Libby. I am sure you will look stunning in the LBD. And if you are like me matching jewelry will go together rapidly. The nice thing is if you don’t really like it you can make something else when you have the time but no one at your function will know the difference. I have redone several “what was I thinking-oh, yeah time” jools.

Congratulations Libby. Celebrate yourself and your accomplishment! I’m sure you’ll make something smashing for the affair (and don’t forget your business cards!). And I’m with you on leaving things until the last minute. If it weren’t for the last minute, I wouldn’t get anything done!

Congrats on the weight loss Libby! I dropped 50 pounds over the last year and am amazed at how much better it makes one feel. I can’t wait to see the pics of you in the LBD and matching jewelry! *SLIGHT* problem with last minute? *snork* Besides…you gave yourself three days to get it together. last minute to me is like….2 hours before event time :)

Thanks Trina, Janice & Kathi! Great idea about the business cards. I still haven’t gotten to the jewelry as I am caught in the whirlwind of arrangements for kids, dogs etc. It’s crazy!

Kathi I remember following your weight loss progress. Congratulations! I still have quite a ways to go, but I feel a lot better already.

Although Project Runway is my favorite show and Tim Gunn is my hero, I still hold out hope that my standard uniform of t-shirt, jeans, and crocs will one day be deemed suitable for EVERY occasion. Congratulations on the 45 lbs Libby! That’s a fabulous accomplishment!

Good luck with creating jewelry for the occasion…. And, believe it or not, I’m a procrastinator, too… :/

Thanks Kim, I am with you on the standard uniform.

Diana, I find it really hard to believe you’re a procrastinator. :-)
