I have been informed (rather emphatically) by E that I need to update my blog. lol
We survived the Great College Drop-Off. Thanks for all the well wishes and sympathy. It was a day my husband and I had long dreaded. It went really smoothly though. The drive from Connecticut to Ohio was a killer, even split into 2 days. The only time I got seriously emotional was driving up the hill to E’s dorm in a long line of cars at 7:30 a.m. Saturday morning. All of a sudden it was so real. We even managed to say goodbye without any of us crying. This was in part due to a stern declaration of E’s at one of the final family events that we’d “better not cry!”, and in part because she was headed off happily to a lecture with her new roommate. It was a bit of an anti-climatic moment, which is just fine with us because it means she’s happy and adjusting to her new life.
Still no studio time. We returned home Monday to a pile of filthy camp laundry and I got instantly swept up into the end of summer chaos. Yesterday was M’s 13th birthday, (yikes!) and school starts on Tuesday so it has been a whirlwind of sorts. I am afraid I am going to have to go to the mall today. (shudder)
Creatively speaking when I get sidetracked for a long stretch like this, I find it very hard to get back to the studio. On normal days I have some sort of bizarre resistance to actually heading down to my work space. When life throws in a few complications, it becomes really hard for me to even think about taking the time. I’ve got plenty of ideas so pretty soon I should be able to overcome that brain barrier/force field or whatever it is that keeps me out of the studio.

Hi Libby,
Glad to hear you survived the college dropoff and all went well.
Yes, yes. I can identify with you about how hard it is sometimes to get back into the studio, especially when a lot of personal things have been dominating. I keep walking by the entrance to my studio but don’t go in, for some weird reason.
I’ve tagged you if you’d like to play along.

I know that too. Getting sidetracked for too long and by too many different things keeps you from heading to the studio. In my case much more so since my studio moved from my office room into the basement.
I’m glad you survived the drop off and to hear that she obviously likes her new life. You’ll get used to it as well…
have a great inspirational week
Bettina

Ah, Libby, remember the excitement of being off on your own at college? First time as an “adult”. It was the most exciting time! I envy you being able to relive it with E.
